Whatever it is, it'll probably feature heavy use of DRM.
WPF is a prefect presentation format to deliver comic book content online. I'm a Microsoft employee who's also a comic fan, and this is a perfect crossover between my two passions. As to what it would look like: well, WPF is a fully fleshed-out set of APIs by which developers can create pretty much anything they want to create, from the simulation of turning pages in a book to some Scott McCloud-like ability to browse content in a non-sequential order.
It does not address any sort of DRM work, but by its nature WPF would respect copyright. Theoretically the content would be created on the server side and would be extremely difficult to copy down to the client side. But DRM is not a key part of WPF. They key part of WPF is the scalability and robustness of the software.
Oh yeah, and it's FREE.
If you're interested in learing more, this is a good place to start.
Ray:
As it happens, I have been meaning to interview someone at Microsoft about where he thinks digital comics are headed. If you're interested, or if there's someone you'd like to put me in touch with, I'd be obliged.
Unfortunately, I'll need you to contact me at tcampbell1000@gmail.com, because whenever I try to find your address, the Atom tells me to stop calling.
Maybe if you get him on the phone, he can shrink himself down to electron size and ride the telephone wires to actually come visit you and do an interview in person! Sorry. Couldn't resist. A comics fan with that name must get that sort of thing all the time.
