The Last Lie

"I'll have something more interesting up tomorrow." Said in the previous post. Two weeks ago.

Occasionally, I might be delayed by technical difficulties, but there's no excuse for this kind of failure to deliver. I have to hold myself to a higher standard than that, going forward.

I'm taking some important steps to make sure I can meet that standard. But I won't tell you what those steps are until they're made. Well, I will tell you that one of those steps is the decision not to tell you the rest of those steps.

Welcome to the exotic world of How People Who Aren't as Prolific as T Feel All the Time. :-)

After a long enough delay, the shame of not having posted anything in {length_of_time} becomes so powerful as to create a perverse incentive to avoid even attempting to post something. This can easily result in a death spiral the likes of which have claimed many a blog.

As a total aside, I hate hate hate comment verification systems which, having made you successfully enter a captcha once during the process of composing a message, then continue to challenge you repeatedly thereafter every time you wish to preview your in-progress effort. It's like a ticket-taker at the door of a concert following you around the venue asking to see your ticket again every time you shift in your seat or stretch your legs.

[As a second aside, upon entering that complaint, the comment system, having asked me to enter at least five or six previous captchas, finally relented and let me preview without asking me again. Go figure.]

That is so very true! I know that feeling well!

Blog, nothing. Replace 'post' with 'go to class' and that sums up the death spiral of my college education. (Both times!)

Anyway, the statement two weeks ago wasn't a lie. It was a faulty prediction - or, at worst, a bum promise. But hooray for an elevation of standards regardless!

I've said it a million times, and I'll say it a million times more:

It's the internet, not the mafia. You can come and go as you please. If you let your blog fall into neglect, well, tough titty for the blog.
